I recently had the pleasure of working with some of my dear friends on an interior design project. They purchased a home in Branson, MO with the intension of making it a short term rental. I had worked with them in the past on their personal home design and knew what their style and budget was like, and they told me they wanted this house to be a board game/video game theme. My goal with this home was to make it feel comfortable and fun, with the game theme obvious but not corny.

Way back in 2013, when we started working on this kitchen of ours, we knew we wanted open shelving for our most used dishes. And this spot right above the dishwasher was perfect, not only aesthetically, but functionally as well.
Back in 2014, when we renovated our kitchen, we had LG HI-MACS solid surface countertops installed in our kitchen. When we were originally shopping for these, 6 years ago, we couldn't find much information or reviews on this specific product, so hopefully this will help you, if you're thinking of having these installed yourself.
We took our kitchen renovation nice and slow over 3.5 years so we could pay in cash for each step: refinishing the cabinets, replacing the counters and appliances, updating the floors, backsplash, etc.
Our home was built in 2000 and we purchased it in 2012. And most everything in the house was builder grade when we moved in. Including all of our cabinets...builder grade oak.
When we renovated our kitchen, we installed the backsplash ourselves. It was a fairly straight forward project, but I found a couple tools along the way that made the job much easier.
